Kelley Fox Wines
Wine Club

Our Club consists of either 6- or 12-bottle selections that are shipped once per year in the spring, and in this inaugural year only, also in the fall (subject to availability) for those who have enrolled after the spring shipping period. The shipments will include a combination of two entirely new and original bottlings that will be exclusively reserved for Wine Club Members only: the Maresh Vineyard Star-of-Bethlehem-Flower-Block Pinot Noir and the Momtazi Vineyard “Tir” Pinot Noir. These bottlings are of small quantity (approximately 200 cases combined) and will not be available in distribution anywhere but to Wine Club Members.

All Wine Club Members receive free shipping on all orders regardless of quantity.

We would love to provide our most loyal friends of Kelley Fox Wines with very special and one-of-a-kind wines. The total membership will be quite limited due to the tiny production.

Wines Exclusive To Club Members

2015 Maresh Vineyard Star of Bethlehem Flower Block

For Wine Club Members only, this inaugural wine is a selection of 8 barrels from a very special block of self-rooted Pommard planted in 1991. Over the years, I have noticed in these vine rows a beautiful, shining white flower called the “Star of Bethlehem”. There is a Bach Flower remedy prepared using these heart-healing flowers, and I have never seen these anywhere else. Jim Maresh Senior farms these vines personally, and I have always loved this little block. This Pinot is transparent, medium red in colour, and full of light. The nose is pure and soaring and has the freshness of both the cool Pacific Ocean air with a slight whiff of salinity and the smell of melted snow. While this is certainly a structured wine with plenty of acidity, it feels weightless and distant. It has the classic Maresh Hood strawberry in the mouth but it is perhaps more ethereal than my other Maresh bottlings. There is something elusive and ingraspable about this wine, like the archetype of the High Priestess. I am writing these notes on 1 March, 2017, and would suggest waiting at least six months before opening. The finish is long.

2015 Momtazi Vineyard “Tir”

For Wine Club Members only, this inaugural Demeter-certified biodynamic wine is a selection of less than 3 barrels from a very special block of a field blend of 114, 667, and Pommard planted in 2003 by/for the beloved, late Jimi Brooks. This beautiful, isolated east-facing block is surrounded from above (the west) by strong native Oregon oak trees and a few madrones, and a natural spring runs down the steep slope just north of this block. The wine from these vines is unlike any other block at Momtazi Vineyard I have worked with over the many years. The notes I wrote on the weigh tag on the day of picking were that “the fruit is in perfect condition. Picked early this morning, these small clusters are cool in temperature, and the berries are tiny.” The colour is an utterly transparent, medium-dark bluish red, and my first impression was that it is full of movement, freshness, and aliveness. The nose is expansive with minerals, exotic spices and dark fruits. But “dark fruit” here is not a euphemism for “very ripe”. This alcohol of this Pinot is 12.5%. There is something aristocratic about this wine. It has easy power and is graceful. The mouth has more fruit (without coming remotely close to being a fruit bomb) than my other bottlings of Momtazi along with the typical Momtazi exotic spices and a whiff of wild herbs. It finishes long. It has exciting tension, and it is detailed and precise without losing its generosity. I think it will cellar for many years beautifully.
