2017 Ahurani Pinot Noir

Because I didn’t bottle a separate Momtazi Vineyard 2017, this one Ahurani has all of my best barrels from this vineyard that would normally be in that bottling. This is a serious Pinot of place offered at a substantial value. It includes the wines from my long-beloved Block C at the top (with exposure to both the east-the Cascades volcanic mountains- and the west-the Pacific Ocean), Block B next to it, and the vertiginous Block K (east-facing and perched above a beautiful little lake).

This Demeter-certified biodynamic Pinot has a brilliant, faceted, transparency with a medium true red colour and cool undertones. It is young as I type this (early December 2018), and the nose is a bit tense at first, but quickly presenting the classic dusty Momtazi Vineyard minerality, wild herbs, exotic spices, and delicious red fruit character. The attack is both precise and smooth and follows with juicy red cherry/berry fruit and a long finish. This wine has easy (as in natural) power but is as silent and weightless as a night-flying owl.
